Title: Strangely Brown
Post by: Castleman on 17 January 2011, 14:54:01
I have been finding small deposits of strange light brown liquid beneath my car recently (2.2 CD auto).

it has the appearance of head gaskett cappaccino oil, but checking my dipstick the oil appears clean.

i have not lost any coolant, which is also not discoloured.

the fluid reservoir near the steering wheel column is also full.

i suspect that this liquid may be air con coolant, but does anyone have any ideas?

regards

Could it possibly be that your camcover gaskets are leaking, this oil mixed with any rainwater that may be getting through the scuttle could explain it.

Hello,

The oily deposit is generally further forward that the gearbox, but i couldn't swear the wife hadn't moved the car & more to the drivers side. worryingly close to below the sump.

If I'm not mistaken, the pipes for the gearbox oil cooler run along the offside of the engine.
I fear you are going to have to get under and have a look to try and pinpoint exactly where this is coming from.
