Title: Numpty TDC Question
Post by: Colin G on 17 January 2011, 20:51:49
Have decided to get my spanners out and have a go at my cambelt.  One thing I'm not sure of is TDC.  I understand about the crank locking tool etc., but can someone confirm that provided the Crank locking Tool is on that this is TDC and that I don't have to worry about any other marks or whether it's on piston 1 etc? Have watched the excellent vid about 3 times now - and will have my laptop available under the bonnet when I do the job.

Sorry if this sounds a silly question but last time I did something like this on an old Hilman Super Minx I managed to get the timing 180degs out  ::)

Cheers

Once you have the Aux pulley off the crank you will feel a notch in the end of the crank at the 6 o'clock position. The locking tool sticks out at 12 o'clock so you can't really go wrong.

Use a small mirror and a torch to align the double lines on the new cam belt to this notch (a line on each edge of the notch) :y
