Can anyone tell me the brand and model of gearbox in my W reg (yr2000) facelift 16v 2.0 GLS 5 speed manual saloon???
-
It's an R25 model.
-
Who makes the R25 gearbox as i cannot find any record online?????
-
I always thought ZF made these boxes.
-
I thought it was Getrag :-/
-
So far i can only find reference to a Getrag with this model number.
Are the gear linkages up top or to the side? If they are to the side of the box, they should be easier to get to as opposed to up top position????
-
Anyone know where i can find a diagram of this gearbox?

It's a Getrag 240, made under licence by GM and called "R25".
fitted to BMW's too, but their linkage is different.
You'll learn pretty much everything there is to know about the linkage by looking at it from underneath, it's pretty simple.

Thank you once again for all the support guys. I am so glad i joined this forum.

Thanks 2woody, a great help as always.

Take a look underneath.
Pretty sure that you'll find 'R25' cast into one of the sides of the 'box.

OOPS, I was sure it was ZF, just Googled it & it appears BMW use ZF and Getrags. Different gear change linkages though.
