Hi there I have just put my mig back on the road since march last year with a rebuilt engine..
Trouble is the ecu is stuck in economy mode.and I have lost the kick down grrrr (autobox)
Does anyone have a tech 2 service going?and how much do they charge?
Thanks
Shane :D

A few members have a Tech 2 service on here, -

First though, Is the ECU throwing up any codes with a paper clip test?
Chris.

Im not sure bud,not done a paperclip test as a mate has op com, everything seems to be ok apart from being in economy mode.
I went to vx they say I will need a carpass for the ecu I have, before they can do anything grrr
Is there any way around this?
The ecu I have fitted is from another mig not my donor engine as for some reason it wouldn't work :y

Not an Tech 2 / ECU expert myself, but sure CarPass is only needed for some security and audio issues.
If its in limp mode, worth checking for any codes / Paperclip, then contact one of the members on the link.
I assume youve fitted like for like ECU, did your friend do any programming with the "My Naff Code Reader".

I'm guessing myself or TheBoy are closest to you. Details in the footer of my post.
Let's make sure we know what's what first, though. You say the engine was changed. Why was the original ECU from the car not used? Was the ECU that you did fit from the same model of car? Same engine size and gearbox type?
Have you checked the adjustment of the throttle cable? This can stop you getting kickdown on the non-DBW cars.
.. and what do you mean by economy mode? Is it in limp-home? (pulls away in 3rd and won't change except manually with the stick) or just the case that you can't select sport mode with the button?
The reason the ECU that came with your engine wouldn't work is because it needs coding to the immobiliser in the car. This does require a car pass, but nothing else would. It's not necessary to change the ECU with the engine anyway so I don't know why this even arose.
Give us a bit more information and we'll see what course of action is best. :y

That's something that can cause problems for a start. ::)
