I have signed a contract with "Three" network 18 month ago. My Nokia N80 had a network lock and I had to pay 15 Pounds to get rid of it.
I was surprised, when tried to use my SIM card in another no-three mobile. It said something like "Phone restricted". I was told by my friend that it has to be a 3G phone so I tried S-E K800 and other mobiles but same result.
I know about it, because my friend who was with "3" had her mobile broken and had to send it (twice). During that time she was unable to use any other mobile, as it wasn't a proper "3" one.
When I called them to cancel my contract and asked this question I was told that every "3" SIM cars is locked to work only with these mobiles and there is no way to unlock it even if I want to pay for that.
DO you know what is the problem with these SIMs and it there any way to make it work with non-branded mobile or any from other network (unlocked).

They are being crafty here.... firstly "Three" SIMs are not locked to "Three" only mobiles.
I have a "Three" SIM from Austria, and that works in an english 6230i, it will work in any phone...
(I work in mobile content)
I suspect the phone you tried your SIM in was locked.... or had SIM lock on.

you SIM could also be a 3G SIM... and the phone you tried it in does not support a 3G SIM.

Correct. It's the phones that are nobbled to only accept a certain operator's SIM not the other way round.

Three are right gits!!!
I have had O2 contract phones, and all have them have been fully unlocked!
I put a New Zealand Vodafone sim in my own o2 contract fone, thats never been unlocked!!!
Vodafone & Three are the worst offenders for locking phones!
Nokia's have become harder to crack, N73 is almost impossible i found!
Sony Ericssons are a doddle....

Mobile was unlocked, and it's just a sim card which is causing a problem.
I tried simcard in S-E K750 and just don't work. I thought that this one is a 3G. Not every mobile is 3G so what types of SIM cards were they selling with old phones (not supporting 3G)?
What network provider is the best?

Phone wise its O2... its each to their own for networks, depending on who in your family is with who ect...
I still don't belive that phone was fully unlocked!! I have put a Three SIM in a much, much older phone, and its worked.

Which providor is best, to me the one that pays my salary, whilst they pay my salary. ;) :-X
As for sim lock the reason behind it is that 3 piggy back onto partner networks when not in coverage - this is however now rare.... Theres a moblel inter connect charge issued by the other network and billed to 3..
Long and short is 3 are charged an astronomical fee per minute, per user, per call if the 3 sim or phone is used out with the network and on a voda/ orange/ Me2 / tmob scenario.....
