Title: cutting out problems with cold engine
Post by: STRAWB on 20 November 2010, 12:06:37
Hi  havent had our Omega long and little history with it, so just looking for any clues here really. Generally the problem is this - the car starts fine and runs fairly smoothly but doesnt like idling and will cut out at junctions and at low revs anywhere even when travelling. The record for a morning so far is five cut outs on first journey :( Not very convenient. Any help much appreciated. Thanks. Newbies. PS we have tried clearing the air mass intake valve for blockages but with no effect. Also spark plugs locked into position and cant remove.  :'(

The answer to this problem on the 2.0s is often found here. (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1194007453)

Clean idle control valve on v engines with throttle cable.

Silver mustard pot on top pas side of engine/plenum. Remove, flush with carb cleaner, light oil, re fit. Repeat if necessary.

Try reading codes mate - likely you will have a 19 - crank sensor.

Also try running with MAF disconnected.

Hi there   Can I just say a big thank you to everyone who helped out with this one and signposted us to diagrams and photo instructions of how to do the cleaning...just brilliant. Was almost resigned to reselling the car with the recurring problem as it had previously been to multitudes of garages both Vauxhall and Independent with the previous owner for OVER TWO YEARS with no solution and fix. Part clean has already taken place and much improved...now waiting for a non rainy weekend to take the rest apart and complete the unblocking. Thanks so much guys. Give yourselves a round of applause you deserve it!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
