Mark my words...It wont be long before the goverment catch on, it wont be long before the prices start to climb, at my local Shell its already started to move.......52p, couple of weeks ago it was 49p.

Remember not that long ago........it was, buy diesel, go on its cheaper than petrol and you get further...........Its now more than petrol.

The govermant will have their turn with the LPG, odds on,

So what your really trying to say is that petrol will become cheaper, and all those doing LPG installs are wasting their time ::)

No, not at all, petrol will NEVER GO DOWN, but i do think that LPG will rise in price once this goverment of ours see there is yet again another way to get cash from the motorist...........it will go up, as said, our local station has increased their price from 49p to 52p in the past few weeks.

i have no doubt about what you have said, in time it will get dearer, the only consolation is that LPG can be bought from alternative sources, heating oil for example, and i believe that comes under a different duty.

The government has had it too easy for so long, they have controlled tax on fuels, with the onset of Rape seed it means that with some equipment it wold be possible to make your own fuel, and the government can do little about it as far as i am aware......

In his November pre-Budget speech chancellor Gordon Brown said LPG did not warrant the current level of duty incentive on the basis of its green credentials. The increase will not be confirmed until the Budget in April.
But Mike Chapman, automotive administrator for the LP Gas Association said the level of increase was “the question people will ask if they are thinking of buying an LPG car”.
He pointed out that although the government had pledged to introduce the LPG duty rise gradually, the delay in supplying details had resulted in “continued uncertainty”.
However, Chapman stressed that, as well as its environmental benefits, LPG would still offer significant savings over petrol and diesel.
The government’s three-year rolling programme for alternative fuel duty would provide stability, he said, and give consumers the certainty they were looking for in terms of duty differentials.
He claimed that the government was still committed to LPG technology and did not want “to pull the rug from under the industry” – one in which gas companies and car manufacturers have invested significantly.
Despite the forthcoming duty rise, he claimed it would still be “viable for consumers to purchase LPG vehicles”.
But the Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) said the LPG lobby had “lost the debate” over the feasibility of the gas as an environmentally friendly alternative to mainstream fuels.
ACFO said the government’s decision to increase fuel duty on LPG in the 2004 Budget would stop sharp the adoption of LPG by fleets.
The SMMT added that the phasing out of the duty incentive for LPG would create difficulties for the businesses that had invested in bringing the fuel’s technologies to the market.

The goverment will do exactly as they want to, include remove the capp on taxes etc...............and the british public WILL sit back and Pay.

The goverment will win.I know alternative sources can be available for gas...but they will just increase taxes on those suppliers.

Unfortunatly that will be the case, the goverment will get around it one way or another...........it will keep going up.

The last 2 revolts did not do Jack sh"t, ie poll tax and the fuel protests a few years ago, council tax is still the same just a different name and the fuel went up regardless of the protests......so if everyone protests about the LPG, which i doubt very much, it will still go up.

SO the fact that LPG cars have a cleaner exhaust htan any other car doesn't matter?

It does matter to you and me and Joe public but the goverment wont give a toss when it comes to increasing the price.

Their plan is to replace UK citizens with Eastern Europeans. Anyone that cares what is happening leaves, and the new people just appreciate whatever they can get.

Ive been using LPG now for about nearly 3 years........i originally was paying 29/30ppl for it........now its 44ppl........thats an increase!!!  >:(

I keep getting letters explaining the price increase......coz its the price of crude oil.......which is b*ll"cks really.......LPG is the by product of converting the crude oil to petrol.......which years ago the oil companies used to burn off.......do you remember seeing the big flame as you went past an oil refinery........that was them burning off the LPG to get rid off it........now they bottle it and sell it......so how come it costs em more.....its still a by product....they happen to produce  >:(

Sadly, there is a lot of truth in this.

LPG may well go up - but I've already made back the cost of my conversion in fuel savings - so any additional savings are a bonus ;)

ive now done 6000 miles since my conversion and on the whole it has been running on gas.

another 6000 and it will be paid for, so long as gas gones no higher than 3/4 the cost of petrol i am still saving.
