Title: abs ecu
Post by: rossi123 on 28 January 2011, 10:56:00
hello everyone i have a query i need to put my ecu on tech 2 but a couple of vauxhall dealers have said that i need my pass code but when i've put it on the tech 2 before no one's needed the pass code it seems like the dealers are trying to rip me off so would like clarification if possible   :-?

you don't need the car pass to do a tech2 and read the codes, you only need the pass if you want to program keys  :y

Guessing a bit here .. but if you know its the ABS ECU I don't think you are after a code read .. I'm guessing you are trying to bleed the ABS system, this does NOT require the passcard but does require a tech2 in order to operate all the valves to remove all the air.

Hi Mate, hows it going?  what exactly are you having done?

nothing ABS related should need the carpass to the best of my knowledge, thats only for security related work.
Unfortunately, this also gives you a clue to the operators ability  :'(

Hello I need the abs ecu reprogramming as it's a 3.2 and mine is a 3.0 and I have been told that I need the pass code but I didn't need it when I went to see the boy so I am wondering why I need it now. Any help would be good.
Thanks Paul

A local scrappy did mine when I need the reconfig, no codes needed.

£1 to 1p they have never changed the varient coding on an ABS unit before, so may be trying to be safe rather than have wasted trips, could be standard quote to everyone.

How much have they quoted?  may be better to shop around.

that I dont know...

But....when you go into the car year, it should only give the options for that year, so will know it only has a choice of 3.0 and 2.5, then auto / manual.  If it doesnt work, try going into the year of the abs ecu instead.

Whats actually occuring in the car with this one fitted?  was it from the same gearbox type?

I guess if he struggles / fails, gis a bell and we could see what "My Naff Code Reader" can do, if anything.

3.2 has a different interface to a 3.0 as it supports CAN between itself ABS-Autobox-ECU.

Was the ECU part code the same as the one removed.

By the way, what did BBA Remin have to say about the old corrupt ecu?

I'd of thought The Boy would of said so I don't think it should be a problem Because he was asking the questions to the fella I bought it off as a matter of fact I'd sooner go down to see him but can't get in touch think he might be away or something

2001 facelift model 3.0

My EPC shows 3 different ABS ecu's fitted to 3.0's (and 2.5's)
90444662 pre facelift
90541367 mini facelift
9117171 - facelift

A different part number was used for the 3.2 / 2.6's -
9198884 - no ESP
93172448 - ESP (unlikely to be seen in UK)

TIS seems to suggest some of the 3.0's could have canbus, but Im probably reading it wrong.
Unfortunately VIN filtering doesnt work for me, so cant reference which of those was your original, but would expect it to be as the descriptions above.

Do yu think it's worth going over there then or to put it differently do you think it will work

From memory of stripping a lot of Omegas the ABS/ECU part number ends in 206 and is the same for mini facelift 3.0 and facelift 3.0 engines...

Honestly no idea, Mark is far more knowledgable, and tech2 aware, and I read his post as suggesting it wont work.  EPC / TIS doesnt say it will, or wont, but an underlying suggestion of it wont as different parts, and I dont know if anyone has actually tried getting this combo to work.
Whether a CAN ecu can 'downgrade' to the old system I dont know.

What are your current symptoms?  TC light on?  does the speedo etc work?

Speedo works fine, cruise control fine , starting and revs fine the probs are rev counter up at top and it's not the smoothest at the moment but that seems to be all that's up oh and the Tc light is on but that's it

We had this a while ago as i remember 2.5 & 3.0 are inter changeable, 26 & 3.2 are inter changeable but not 2.5/3.0 with 2.6/3.2.
