Title: Cam Cover Gaskets 3.0 V6
Post by: MikeDon on 27 January 2011, 18:26:23
Evening Chaps,

From previous posts I am fairly sure my cam cover gaskets need doing as bad smell etc etc but have noticed the car is badly down on power aswell.

The car is down on power and won't rev freely, hesitating and i guess missfiring under load;

is this likely to be to do with the cam cover gaskets?

Or have read other posts that suggest air flow meter?

Any thoughts or ways to check the cause?

Have done the paper clip test and no fault codes....

Thanks

Mike

Yes Mike, if your cam cover gaskets are leaking the oil will probably be filling up the spark plug holes!  That will probably be the cause of the missfiring, and the sooner you replace the gaskets the better.  Your coil packs could well get damaged if you do not! ::) ;)

Hi folks
I've also got the same problem.
Had the gaskets changed and a new coil/dis pack fitted, was ok but now it's misfiring under load and hunting/revving irregularly..
Sometimes it's fine all the way to work (30 kilometres), but sometimes it's a pig all the way.
Any further ideas??
Thanks

first thing to do mike is clean the plug holes and breathers out  :y
this sould reduce some of the pressure building up under your cam covers so it won't leak as much  :y
sort your cam cover seals out ( see maintenence guides ) then change your ht leads and give the plugs a good clean  :y
if its still missing and down on power then its coil pack time  ;)

where are you ?
they may be a member local who could help  :y

Thanks for the quick response....

I was hoping that it would be related to cam cover gaskets as times being tight I didn't want another issue croping up so soon to saving up for the cam cover gasket job!

That being said I think I will refrain from driving it until it goes in on Tuesday and fingers crossed I haven't got broken coil packs too! ::)

Thanks again for your reply

Mike

Misfire under load points to a HT problem.......lead/s plug/s. Hunting/irregular revs is usually ICV or vac leak

ht leads ?

if they was soaked in oil, then they may start to break down when they get warm  :y

Thanks all,

In Belfast have an ex vauxhall chap that was doing the cam cover gaskets next week anyway ( after pay day!) but it only started losing power and missfiring today....

Just need to hope that the coil packs aren't now damaged too ::)
