Title: Any idea what thats doing....?
Post by: P6UL K on 25 January 2011, 22:57:05
Thought i'd try and rid the car of the loose looms left by the Police when they took (i actually mean ripped out) all their Police equipment.....

My main question is, what is that little pipe for/doing in the centre of the picture?  Very odd!

I'll be posting up again tomorrow, enquiring what the spare multi-plugs are for.

Believe it or not, it`s there to blow cool air onto the rear of the radio :)

Some Omega's had an option of a "cooled" glove box....  used the aircon on max cold to do it ... but might have succeeded after 20 hours in cooling 1 small can of coke ...  methinks yours has that option and that pipe connects to the side of your glove box.

Could be wrong ........

Nope, due to the enclosed area at rear of head unit it acts as a "cooling fan" to reduce the heat output :) :y

an air conditioned Dairy Milk in the glove box became just a dream post mini-facelift.  :(

I'm guessing that you've found all the cuts behind the radio. Live feeds taken from most of the spare/redundant plugs around the radio. I dealt with these by getting each plug and as much loom as I could get at from a breaker, and then spliced these onto the existing wiring. :)

Alot of butchery can also be found under the nearside sill trim, up the nearside A post, and under the drivers side dash, basically everywhere. Vauxhall wiring is obvious, plod wiring looks out of place. The wires they use tend to be brightly coloured and coded with spots of paint, ie yellow with red bands, or regular striped wires that aren't taped in with the main loom. The tippex  :-X writing under the fuse box cover should give some idea of the size wires and where you might find them.

You'll find a 40amp cable up the nearside A pillar to the roof for the light bar. There will be a few odds and ends around the steering column, poss a toggle switch for the runlock. Microphone and speaker wiring up the drivers side A pillar. Some wiring to the top of the tailgate, pull the trim off and will stand out.

Apparently different equipment was fitted/supplied by different people, so lots of added variety. ::)

Any plugs, wiring taped into the main loom are original. The cars were built at Russelheim in Germany with the following ingredients, (Based on my experience of two 3.2 estates from two completely different forces):

1. Strengthened bodyshell. No sunroof, extra strength in roof.
2. 3.0/3.2 V6 with man/auto and lsd if cust. requests.
3. Lowered Sports Chassis with uprated springs.
4. Full Elite loom, minus electric rear window wiring in drivers/ rear doors.
5. GLS/base trim.

Had to strip mine when I bought it, as I had a plate welded into the roof where a light mast once lived. Haven't had the dash out, but everything else I could probably remove/refit in my sleep. ;D

You'll get to know the car quite well tidying the loom up.

yes - the standard of butchery will astound you....

all the cars I've had didn't have lower springs, they had harder springs to bring the car back up to a reasonable ride height, considering the weight of all of the "you've been nicked" equipment.

Yep, gets quiet cold aswell with out a Head unit or something in there, unaffected by the temp controls, had to block mine off on the ex plod project.
