Title: Changing Gear linkage and lever unit
Post by: Lesopc on 29 January 2011, 13:48:49
Hi again guys, can anyone tell me how to change the gear linkage unit on my 5 speed manual (R25/R28) gearbox. My mechanic believes that it must be done from inside the car?

How do you remove the trim around the handbrake/gearlever and is this necessary as the part is quite long judging by the photo of it on e-bay?

What tools will i need of more than the most basic of sockets & screwdrivers etc?

Are there any difficulties in performing this repair to look out for?

Does it take more than 2-3 hours on average?

Thanks guys

Does anyone know where to find a diagram/exploded drawing of the Getrag R25/R28 5 speed manual gearbox or maybe a photo of the gearbox with the gear linkage showing as my mechanic needs to see what it looks like. This is where a Haynes manual for the '99 to '03 Miggy would have come into it's own. Shame they changed their mind with regards printing such a publication.

Maybe we, as a forum of Miggy owners, should send them a petition or something???

Why? All the info you need is in the Haynes manual. Chapter 7
