Software update will not cure an existing fault.
If the ecu light came on, check for fault codes.

As Rob says, engine must be running to get a proper level.   ;)

Hi guys ,still having issues with the auto box, just had oil changed still doing the same thing,no faults coming up,it seems to be more frequent now, could it be the gear selector,or something else, need some more help with this one.cheers all

Possibly selector switch, but this is usually accompanied by the selector lights misbehaving or all coming on at the same time.

See this:

Otherwise it could be a solenoid problem inside the box.

hi there is a solenoid inside the gearbox that selects gears for u that can sometimes get sticky and therefore cause the gears to not engage or when u rev jump into gear hard is about 400 pound to fix sorry mate the soleniod is about 90 quid think there might even be 2 solenoids now i think off it my car had the same problem i just put up with it and make sure the oil is at the right level
if oil low will also give same symtoms good luck

So what do you think the next port of call should be? should i get the switch cleaned? or price up a New solanoid?
Not happy.

its always when it tries to select 3rd or at low revs you lift of and back on again and doesnt find a gear and just revs unless u revs the nutts of it in which case it jumps in.

Sounds like the 2-3 solenoid. Sump off jobbie. Have a read of this and note "Figure 2" part #307 http://images.omegaowners.com/downloads/Autobox_Docs/4L30E_Article.pdf

easy job, drop rear sump, pull roll pin holding solenoid in place, refit new or s/h one (if using s/h then check resistance 17.5-18.5 ohms)refit sump, refill, drive away. :y

My standby does 1 2 nothing sometimes, other times fine.
I have an AR 35 but don't feel up to a swap. Would you change just 2/3 solenoid or whole valve box ,or whatever it's called?

Read the codes which showed solenoid 2-3 fault. So £260 for parts and labour but that includes a full gearbox service so hopefully that should sort that.
