Changed wheel bearing still have the rumbling noise from rear may be the Axle diff back to garage next week to change oil.
Dose any one know howe mutch a recon axle diff is and is saloon same as estate

its unusual for a diff to fail, have both rear wheel bearings been changed? Does the rumble change with speed? Is it affected by cornering?

Both changed gets noiser up to 60 ish then gets a bit quiater after that but i think thats down to road wind noise
At its noisiest tried everething hand break coasting power on power off turning left right noise no change

If the dif seal fails it can loose it's oil. Check the dif oil level and is there oil around the drive shaft to dif seal?
second hand dif's are not expensive. Needs to be from the same engine size to get the correct gearing though.
Is there any play in the new barings

No play any where diff dry oil level ok is there a bearing from drive shaft to diff if so could it be that

The cheapo tyres I had on the DTi over winter sounded just like wheel bearing failure! ;)

Hi,
Had all the same noises you have so bought a second hand diff from Megavaux for £113 including delivery.
My mechanic fitted it yesterday and its like a new car not having to listen to that dronning noise from the back :).
Bought the car with a towbar already fitted so should think it was all the caravaning the previous owner did in it that killed the diff.

Thats whot started mine every time i went out on a 200 miles plus with caravan its got louder

My chap charged me £100 cash but that also included an oil and filter change, which i supplied, and also he fitted a couple of vacum hoses for me as well.
He is a mate of mine so after looking at what was involved in changing a diff i think he did me a favour.

Do not know wots going on all this noise from the rear over the past year
I hit a big pot hole to day now the noise is gone had it cheked all ok
