Title: autobox software update
Post by: tidla on 05 February 2011, 19:53:09
on getting my motor it had a autobox fault which was cured with a silver paint pen to the selector. at the time the codes were read /cleared by the techie man on which he commented that i have version 8 software.

just wondered whether an update (9?)would quicken the kickdown/gearchange?

Believe 9 is the latest. Or is that the cc update? Anyway, only one way to find out. :y

3.0l 1998-2001 will have a GS820 TCM.  The latest map for 3.0l on GS820 is v9

Its the step from v8 to v9 that has the benefits of the smoother changes, and the seemingly better drive off roundabouts/corners etc imho

The Autobox update is one of the most worthwhile updates you can get done on an Omega IMHO. But while there's a TechII plugged in it's well worth getting the Climate Control software updated as well.  :y

it was the change downs I found most noticeable in father T's - Only way you could tell it changed gear was seeing rev counter dip  :o

Highly recommended  :y

Don't know if you tow, but the upgrade to v9 made towing even more pleasurable.. change up happened earlier, so more economical, and the tendency to "hunt" between 3rd and 4 th on a gentle slope vanished .. the car stays in 4th far more.

Well worth it . :)

I doubt your current car is v9 - a 3.2 will have a GS821 series TCM (most likely a GS8211), and for a 3.2, the latest is v8

So my 2003 3.2 Elite may not have the latest version either?

Is this something that could be done at the Hampshire Cambelt meet?

It's pretty much garuanteed not to have as the software came out after the car finished production.  :y

As long as one of the members with a genuine Tech II is there you'll be in business.

Don't think this one has ever been done ... but you did the old 2.5 and it made a massive difference .. :)

Is there any way of telling which version of the software is installed without resorting to a TechII?

I doubt that my 02 2.6 Elite has had the software updated, certainly not by me (only bought it last July).

If there is no-one in the York area from the Forum who can do it is it worth going to the main stealers or would I be better going to an independent Bosch specialist?  ;)

no i dont tow with the motor but better general driveability sounds worthwhile.
