Title: Cleaning of fabric seats
Post by: Lesopc on 07 February 2011, 21:22:28
Hi guy's, i want to spring clean the Miggy in the coming weeks and have noticed that my fabric seats are looking a bit mucky especially in the rear (i have a 3 and a 5 year old who love chocolate as well as climbing through the car). Can anyone suggest any ideas to clean them short of getting a steam cleaner guy to do it as my budget is a bit tight????
Thanks guy's.

The old 2.5 had light velour fabric seats that seemed to attract dirt like a magnet.

I found that a good quality carpet/fabric cleaner like 2001, the pre-mixed hand spray version, LIGHTLY applied, then rubbed in gently with a soft, damp cloth, then left to dry thoroughly before vaccuuming off kept them in pretty good order. When I first got the car it took 3/4 goes over consecutive weekends to get them to the standard I wanted.

HTH

:)  No longer a problem .. easy wipe leather .. :)

Apart from an interior valet i use these wipes ...

I have a very light interior and they work amazing well. about £5 for a big tub too.

Practical Classics did a side by side comparison test of various car upholstery cleaners afew years ago. Their verdict was that Vanish Soap was just as effective as all the expensive brand names.  ;) ;) ;)

I use the following:

Ambersil Auto Groom foaming upholstery cleaner. Readily available from halfruds and motor factors. It's a detuned version of something I used to use cleaning aircraft cabins. It foams nicely, leaving no residue and you can see the results quite clearly.

Auto Glym leather cleaner and balm. Again does a cracking job.

Velcro. The 'hook' side (not the fluffy 'loop' side), used lightly is brilliant at lifting chocolate etc from fabrics.

Keep the car clean for work, but have never needed anything more than the above list, rags and a decent hoover.

Incidently, for rags, I use tesco value face towels, 25p each. Much better value than the £1 each cloths from halfruds. Same size btw. ::)

I've used Vanish carpet cleaner (spray form).
When I got the car seats were something between gray and black, and original colour of seats was like Dans mig  :o
Vanish did a great job I must admitt so would recommend it to everyone

I've used Autoglym interior shampoo with success, leaves also a nice fragrance.

My previous one had the light brown seats and they were a pain to keep clean. I hired a carpet washer with suitable nozzles from local drycleaner and they gave some "special detergent" with it and it really was efficient and the result was amazing. It really cleans. Size of a vacuum cleaner, uses water etc, you know the thingy. It is really worth the rent. It was around 30 EUR per day including detergent.

Don't know anyone with a Vax, also too expensive to buy on my current budget. But thanks.

Tescos own upholsery foam works a treat for about £1 a can, pretty strong lemony smell though!
