Hi, The EML. came on today followed by a loss of power, also noticed the rev counter was not counting. I turned off the ignition for a around Twenty seconds, then back on again but still the same. Can any one tell me what's going on??
Nearly forgot, car is 2.2 dti cdx 2001reg.

If you look in the maintenance guide there is a thread of how to read the fault code that has happened, once you have found out what the fault code is post it up and someone should be able to help you out.

Hi Hanna judes dad.
The paper clip test and pedal trick won't work with 2.2 diesel, I need some one with a code reader.

I can read the codes for you mate but I'm about 40 mins away...

Sorry I was having a senior moment earlier and forgot about dti engines,I saw 2.2 and thought petrol not diesel.
I am a numpty sorry once again. :-[
I hope you can get your codes read,Chris (Mutant Cav) is not too far away from you although there may be someone closer to hand.

Crank sensor is the likely cause.....
-
As said, probably crank sensor, 2.2 dieseasal uses the crank sensor to supply the signal for the rev counter.
Best to buy original quality parts, cheap ones can cause problems...

Many thanks for all your help.
I was going to ask if the crank sensor fed the rev counter, but Mr. Brikhead has answered the question before it was asked. Many thanks ..Colin..
OOPs nearly forgot ! Where is the crank sensor on the 2.2 dti cdx 2001 Reg?

No need for such formality, Colin, Brik'll do fine!
From memory of my old Vectra the crank sensor is bolted to the front of the block (or side in your case) just above the sump line. The wiring loom then ran up to a connector mounted near the oil filter housing so you could look for that then follow the wires back to the sensor.

Just replaced the crank sensor following the guide in the maintenance section, 20 min job, thanks to the guide. Just remains to road test now, Wish me luck. :y
