Title: Headlights
Post by: Vauxhall Omega on 09 February 2011, 22:20:01
Hello everyone. I've had a problem with my headlights (HID) thats been bothering me for a while. The internal reflector bits move about freely. It has always passed its mots ok. Is this a common problem? And is there a fix? Thanks for any help.

Afraid you've got broken adjusters.. There is a fix listed, replacing the plastic ones with Aluminium ones :y :y

Oh great, did GM make the aluminium adjusters? Or are they after market items?

As Rob said, probably as you were typing, they were commissioned by a member here and will fix it. Or you might be lucky and be able to glue them like I have, although I doubt it will be a permanent fix

OR....as I did literally yesterday...hope to strike gold and get complete replacement headlights from a wreckers WITH the adjusters in tact.

It would appear that the broken adjusters were throwing up a field of vision error. Problem finally went away once I changed the headlights entirely.

Think that's probably a coincidence TBH :-/

The field vision error is yet another Omega HID problem caused by the sensor not the broken adjuster.
I also have the same broken adjuster problem (on the nearside) and I'm really impressed that you managed to find a second hand headlamp at a breakers yard with the adjusters in tact.  :-?

I would still consider splitting them and putting in the aluminium adjusters (which BTW are superbly manufactured) as sods law says that having gone through the hassle of changing the lamps over you will have to get the alignment re set and at that point the adjuster will break. Another problem on these things is that many seem to have peeling silver on the reflector and many have evidence of leaking and continual misting (which may be why the silver flakes off).
I think its fair to say that these lamps were not one of Hella's best efforts. :(
