brake pedal switch is the usual suspect. It could be the solenoid by the gear selector but more like to be the brake switch .................... even if your brake lights work - there's two set of contacts inside.

What's wrong with "D" and the left foot on the foot brake!

Blinds the driver behind. Especially at night.

Why is it that drivers of autos think that the handbrake is redundant? I have driven automatics for years and always park up using the handbrake as well as 'P'. I also use it when standing at lights. After all, when I drive a manual I don't park up by leaving it in 1st with the handbrake off.

Jim.

Jim.

Putting a manual in gear is nothing like putting an auto into Park. If you push hard enough you will still move your manual car whilst in gear (turning your engine over too), whereas you lock the auto with a pin that physically stops the box from turning.

Pushed hard enough that will shear ;)

never said it wouldn't. But the analogy with putting a manual into gear doesn't compare. If just pushed, the tyres are likely to skid along the ground before the pin breaks.

I know that an auto doesn't like going into P before you've stopped when you think you're putting your manual into first!  :-? :-? :-? ;D
