I like it when they sell compressors etc, I like to go in and watch grown men fighting over last one (esp in the MK branch, as its not in the 'best' part of town!)

Do these sell out pretty quickly, or is it likely I can still get some this evening?

The offers come out on Thursday and Sundays, and these are the busiest days, ove picked up offers a few days later before now, the best offers can go in an hour!

Dont think there is too much demand for the mechanic'y stuff, wasnt much interest on that in this store.

I'm confident i can get that powerpack I should have bought on my way home from work.

You can subscibe to their mailing list, then they tell you the offers a day or 2 in advance so you can watch for anything of interest, mainy shite though tbh.

I need to go to Banbury later, once Mr Postman delivers a new CPU for my MCE, to pick up some stuff from dealer. Aldi is virtually next door...

Got this last time round, IMO don't !

The leads are far too big to get aroud most battery terminals I've tried. And imo it doesn't pack much of a starting punch, doesn't stay charged for long, doesn't really know when it is and isn't charged.

The only advantage to this one over my nice expensive Halfrauds one costing £90 is that it doesn't have a polarity check.

When the Hundy goes completely flat over the winter, the battery doesn't have enough charge in it to allow the halfrauds one to detect that the leads are correctly oriented, so it won't power on.

I will however be purchasing a pair of those stands.

Cheers for the advice, that 3 year guarantee was appealing ;)
was thinking for camping use etc, not really starting power.

I'll have a think  :-?

Wasn't convinced on the idea of folding axle stands myself, meega's are heavy cars, I'd rather have heavier duty stands.

Folding stands are for the Hundy, currently has a flat rear tyre and I don't own a spare. Have to fit new tyres in pairs on the rear.

IME, anything cheap that contains a lead acid gel battery will be rubbish. I don't know if it's because they use cheap batteries in the first place, store them for too long without maintenance charging, or a combination of the above but several times I have bought such items and ended up paying more than I did for the item for a new, decent quality battery to go in it. >:(

If it's cheap enough to buy on the expectation that you'll have to change the battery then go for it. Otherwise, don't bother.

I have been happy with my cheapo (maplin i think) for a few years, until the mv6 spat it out of the engine bay the other day, and smashed the casing.

Wont start it if completely flat though.

I've bought lots of tools etc., (not a Powerpack), from Aldi, & Lidl who do the same thing. Don't expect anything to be good for heavy duty use on a daily basis, but for my occasional requirements most things have been excellent.

I bought one 12 months ago, haven't needed to start the car with it yet, took it to the Newent meet, inflated my matress, charged my mobile, gave me a night light etc.

Also use it as a portable power source for my 12v soldering iron, and 12v drill.

Charge it up after use, and if not in use, once a month.

Battery still reading fine :y

:)Got a double jointed mate with scary looking chrome different shaped poking things!!! Hav'nt seen him beaten yet, he pops 'em out & you'd think they were never there.
On a smaller scale found packs of 4 Microfibre cloths for a quid in Farmfoods of all places. These are what the valet lads use in or outside your Mig & you can bung 'em in with the wash!!! :y

Worse.  OK, Halfords are thin, but otherwise OK.  These were thinner  :o, and poor quality as well.  But only £2.99 iirc.

Picked up the powerpack today,
1st impressions i'm quite impressed, seems much better quality than the rac one that went back under warranty

good weight to it
selection of spares,
cubby holes for chargers

will see how it goes, 3 year warranty, so can't be too shabby  :y

Bought a powerpack from Halfords back last year, paid £94 for it, well worth it, used it several times, and its ideal for the caravan tyres etc.

Aye, you're right with these. They're no good for the diesels which still splutter a bit on starting after being jumped by another running motor.
