hi all , i keep having an intermittent fault but i'm not sure what is at fault ;D done the paperclip test but its giving me nothing , now , symptoms , traction control light and abs light come on and speedo stops working , also the speed sensitive steering seems to stay at whatever sensitivity it was at when driving , i,e if your on motorway when it happens its a bugger to steer when you hit normal roads (heavy), the fault comes and goes without any discernable pattern/reason , as always any suggestions and help gratefully appreciated :y :y

sounds like the abs ecu is up the creek.

now why did i know you were gonna say that ;D are they worth fixing or will it just go again do you know ?
-
you can send them off for repair, cant remember who to though, no doubt someone will point you in the right direction.

i've got a mate in the trade , he already said he'd sort it if i could get to it , just wondering if its easier and better to get a new one ::)

Classic ABS ECU fault .. been there got the t-shirt :(
3 options for fixing ..
1) breaker for a replacement .. MUST be the same engine/gearbox/model year or it will need configuring with a tech2
2) new from Vx - requires sale of body parts to raise the cash, and needs a tech2 session to configure
3) repair. I had mine done by BBA Reman. Sent on monday back friday £130 + 2 year warranty. I was very pleased with them, a few folks not so pleased. Does not need a tech2 as it belongs to the car.
Fiddly but not difficult to remove, car can be driven without the ECU but I wouldn't advise it. VERY fiddly to replace as working blind, but if I can do it, anyone can !!!

Before you even "think" new from VX .. I believe they were around £500 + VAT when I had my problem 4 years ago ...... no idea what they are now .....
Which is why I went the repair route .... :)

I don't think you even want to think about the price of a new ECU. A repair will cost you somewhere over £100 at BBA Repairman and another that MarksTM favours.

here comes the blonde moment , whats a tech2 ? and will a decent garage have one , followed by , whats the quickest it can be done ?

tech2 .. a diagnostic machine for vauxhalls, can also "talk" to the car and configure equipment/do upgrades to some software
Will a decent garage have one .. Dealers will, others might have similar, but wether they can use them properly is unlikely. 3 are "on" the forum with folks who CAN use them
Quickest it can be done ..... old one off 2 hours, back on .. took me 4 hours and a fortune in the swear box ... the bit in the middle depends.... BBA were Mon - Fri when they did mine .. probably worth ringing them for latest timescale. breakers .. depends how long it takes to find the right one. dealers ... usually get most things in 48 hours.

I think this is the other company repairing them http://www.ecutesting.com/vauxhall_vectra_omega_abs_pump.html

using an angry grinder doesn't count :D you have to be able to drive it again afterwards ;D
-
Not even using the angry grinder or the REALLY BIG hammer...genuine, not breaking anything way of doing it that saves your time, knuckles and stress levels :y 45mins-1hr :y
