Title: Mantzel Resonator for more HP and Nm
Post by: rajveer.sandhu on 20 February 2011, 21:31:03
I have read that these resonator boxes help improve Power.
Has anyone had experience of these?

Is there a Mod I can do to replicate these boxes or is there an alternative?

I suspect any improvement would be right at the top of the rev range. Removal of the front multiram setup wll lose torque at low RPM, though. I can't see it being an improvement, myself.

I have one fitted and its a big improvment, even more so up the rev range, it depends on how you drive the car ,

alot of motorway driving/track driving/racing then get a mantzel type resonator.

around town / general poodling leave as it is.

finding one is the hard thing, im using a short plenum resonator on a long plenum. not ideal.

Never encountered one, but would expect a loss of bottom end making it "feel" like a gain at the top end...?

Ahh. Nothing like a completely flat midrange for making an engine feel like it's sending you into orbit when you cane it. ;D

It all comes to an abrupt end at the first TLGP. ;D

do you have a dyno-plot before and after ?

Im going to be doing a dyno run with and without asap,

ive solved the lack of torque lower down by fitting a lightened flywheel , this hides the fact its lost a bit of torque  ;D

"making it "feel" like a gain at the top end"
i know what you mean but untill you test both you wont understand. i kept changing 2 and from the dual ram and even done a 70mph side by side with a friends omega and the resonator really comes into its own at that speed.

theres not many people that seem to have tried these resonators yet those people doubt them very quick  ;)

its each to there own i guess, my omega is a toy and is driven hard when used. it has all the luxurys removed.
most people on here use them everyday and have no interest in modding  :)

Back to the OP sorry Raj, Try one if you get a chance you may or may not like it. as for extra power you will gain a bit top end 4k onwards, fitting a light flywheel will help low end driving and make it feel like you have gained alot of low down torque. if you want any more tuning info PM me ive done alot to these engines in the past, inc porting , tubular manifolds , external oil cooler , cams, solid 1.6 lifters ect.

Fair play. For a road car I'd rather have the flat torque curve but it would be very interesting to see a before and after plot to see exactly what is gained. :y

It could be a useful mod for those using Omegas on track.

I guess it wouldn't be a hard item to fabricate given the measurements.

Kevin  :y  i'll try and get a before and after and get it posted.

It would be a good track mod, i spoke to a polish guy a while back that said they sell them in poland for £90 he showed me his resonator and it was a very neat design. have never been able to find them though shame. there must be someone producing them?

might be best to do it both at steady state and at a rising rate
