last January I fitted a new pair of genuine VX front drop links as originals had excessive play.
I have now developed a similar noise again from front o/s and it seems drop link is again at fault, although need to have a closer look as might also be wishbone aswell.
Am I expecting too much that a genuine febi part should only last 1 year and 24k and be in need of replacement again...except condition of roads is somewhat "lunar landscape "though.

Are the nuts still tight?
Easyest to check for play with both wheels jacked so the roll bar is not under tension.

Got front pads to change Thursday so will have a good prod around with bar.
Its the tell tale noise that makes me think drop links again.
Will have a look at the nuts as well to ensure are still tight.

Wont need a bar if the roll bar is not stressed, grab the roll bar near the drop link joint from undernieth, any play can be fealt. :y

No history of mine ever being changed, decided to slap on some new ones at about 148k :)

I'm just about to put my third set on!
I run my tyres at 40psi...I wonder if this has anything to do with it? :-/

That's a lot. Do you find you get excessive centre wear?
I run mine at 32 (and often neglect them so the average is lower ::)) and still find the rears don't wear evenly.

No excessive centre wear no. I do loads of motorway miles so it helps with economy. Came by recommendation from my sisters partner who works for Continental.
Since I had a PROPER 4-wheel alignment and new tyres at Fleet Fit in Loughborough (they use WIM settings), the tyre wear over 20k miles has been completely even for the first time in four years of ownership. They've only used about half the tread so far too. :y
