Post by: kjf7 on 23 February 2011, 11:39:07
Poor old tractor clutch went yesterday so thought I'd get a quote and do glow plugs at the same time £700 to £800 is the price they came back with so not worth it what do u guys think? Could it b time for a new mig estate? Also going to need 2 tyres soon and tax runs out next Monday bloody hell. I would appreciate a little advice cheers.  :-[ :(

I'm not sure who's close by and ive been off the scene for a while and not sure what will happen if it completely goes as I'm not to good with cars and as I said need glowplugs 2 tyres and tax soon don't know if I should get another if there's a good one about for around £1000 that might make more sence but then I know this car and what's been done already. I suppose breaking it would b a possibility but would it be worth it ho dear that sounds like ive given up already :'(

depends what year? mileage? history? spec? rust? do you love it? does it do all you want it too?
FYI clutch takes around 3 hours start to finish, prices for clutch are around 150 to buy assuming you dont need flywheel and thrust bearing, glow plugs take around an hour but more the first time you do it, tyres? world is your oyster shop around you may be surprised, tax is a necessary evil  unfortunatley
let us know :y

If you want to keep the car, you can. Clutch can be done for less than half that, and glowplugs are cheap enough, (have you tested them?) Tyres can be sourced from here, already on Mig rims,  with enough tread to keep you on the road until you can afford new. It is up to you.

if i can get clutch and glowplugs done at a reasonable price then brilliant as for tyres i can sort them i think glowplugs are about £12 each plus gaskets also battery seems to drain (new last year) it would b a shame if she had to go but shes getting a little tatty now as i now have a child and a lot less time to do stuff (i was warned that this would happen by u guys some 19 months ago!) just been on fleabay to see whats available and have been toying with the idea of getting a newer model thanks guys :y

Ho dear I'm starting to lose the battle! Running out of ideas now tax runs out on Monday and don't want to buy it if I'm getting a different car as money's tight as we all know. R valve stem seals going to b a constant problem then  :'(

It seems that Vauxhall used inferior valve stem oil seals on the early 2.6s all the rest of the range seems not to suffer

Is that an expensive job if it does go wrong and I take it there is a better quality seal that could be used if so? Thanks Pete
