Title: Cam cover gaskets
Post by: Xenon on 25 February 2011, 16:06:26
I'm doing the cam cover gaskets tomorrow. I've just read the guide, would it hurt to put the black sealant on all of the gasket?

Follow the guide and you will have no problems with leaks in a few weeks time make sure you use VX gaskets

Using sealant all around the gasket increases the chances of it getting into an oil way and gumming it up, and it makes it a mare to clean off at a later date.

Fit them as per the guide, you won't go wrong :y

Make sure you use a torque wrench as well ;)

I did mine last year and 10000 miles later one of them is leaking again.  If I remember right I gave it all a smear thinking it wouldn't do any harm.  Maybe it did!  :(

Mine were replaced when the HG was changed at around 135k, and that must be 3yrs/40k ago

They only need doing again because the cam covers have been on and off so many times in the past 12 months without renewing them ::)

not without checking. E10 or E12 as a guess.

You MUST use a 8Nm torque wrench. Guessing WON'T work (for long, anyway)
