Good evening all,
Anyone know what the going rate is to have a towbar fitted please? Just laid my hands on one from a trusted member of this forum :y
Just need to have it fitted. Going to see my local mechanic, but just wanted to see what kind of pennies it's going to cost.
TIA ;)

There's only 9 bolts bolting it down, dead easy to fit yourself. The hole positions are pre-marked with a dimple so you don't even need to do any measuring. :y
Ask at a local towbar fitters, it shouldn't be tt expensive, they're most likely to get the electrics right too. ;)

Yes, a doddle to fit, and if it's a genuine GM towbar, there will be a plus on the wires for easy connection. :y
p.s. This towbar IS a Facelift one I assume? ::)

Hi Agemo, no it's for my mini facelift estate. I've got a Witter bar to on. Spoke to my local mechanic tonight and quoted me £50 fitted.
Doesn't sound bad? :)

Inc electrics? If not, and as your car already has a bar fitted which means no drilling required sound a bit much. I paid a local towbar fitter £20 to fit my towbar to my saloon, but I had just bought the towbar from him. Then I fitted the electrics. That was probably 5 or 6 yrs ago.

Its not a bad price considering he's got to drop the exhaust on the estate, I wonder if he knows ::)

Ah! I've never looked at an estate's. ;)

The price was for fitting and electrics! Not had one on the estate before as only just got it, but do have one already on the saloon.
Gonna have a look today and see how much of the work I can do. Not that savvy on cars, but always willing to look and have a go, providing it's not a safety related part, ie brakes etc ;D

quite a bit different, 4 bolts on the left and 2 on the right and as pete says rear box needs lowering for access :y

Bite his hand off in the rush to accept !!! for full (either 13 pin or 12N + 12S) electrics and fitting that is an excellent price .. the electric parts alone will be at least £25 IMHO ... :)

Yes, the socket etc was a rip off from the stealers so I soldered straight in. Seem to remember the only issue was I had a choice of 3 wires for one of the colours and got it wrong the first time. Other than that, just follow the guide on here.

Oooerrr...., I put my estates towbar on myself, but didn't need to drop the exhaust?? I just wiggled the plates into place, supported the bar on a trolley jack (means you are able to lift/drop and manoeuvre it into the right place easily) and just needed a spare pair of hands (son!!) to hold the socket on the bolt whilst I did up the nuts underneath.
Worst bit was ensuring all the spacers were in position before putting bolts through the holes in boot floor/chassis.
Whole job including wiring in single electrics was just under 2 hours, and only needed help with the bolt/nut tightening... :y
