Title: How to Remove Clocks, non adjust column

with referance to Help › Maintenance Guides › How to Remove Clocks Panel, how do u rmeove them if yo have a non adjustable steering column ?

Are you changing bulbs or do you need it fully out?

I seem to remember managing to squeeze it out on ours (non-adjustable) without removing the wheel.  Getting the connector of the info display out is fiddly though.

Fairly sure Ive done one, may have to take the top black steering housing off, 2 more screws from memory.

Yes I am sure the top shroud needs removing, still a tight fit though. I would try to get the steering wheel off to make it easier, usual precautions though.

Steering wheel off I'm afraid

I tried very hard, on several occasions, to get the instruments out of my previous Omega without removing the steering wheel.

The procedure is
1. Check that you have the code for your radio
2. loosen a battery terminal
3. ignition on, ignition off, remove battery lead within 15 seconds of switching ignition off
4. go and have a cup of tea (ie leave any stray voltages to discharge before attacking the airbag in the steering wheel)
5. undo Torx screws in rear of wheel to remove airbag. Carefully unplug airbag and put it somwhere safe. (put it 'face up' so if it does go off the bag inflates harmlessly rather than firing an aluminium casting into the air).
6. undo the central nut and use a puller to pull the wheel off without straining the collapsible steering column.
7. grab a bag of frozen peas and hold it against your nose until the bleeding stops (there is a surprisingly strong spring behind the wheel)
8. remove centre vents and remove instruments :y

no need to remove steering wheel
1/ remove top cowling
2/ remove screw from behind cowling
3/remove center vent
4/remove center vent screw then the surround
5/remove screw holding clocks
6/ pull clocks forward pull out retaining clip
and remove plug
7/remove clocks at a 30 ish degree angle
took mine out loads of times on the gls
never once removing the steering wheel

Don't know why my mine was different but there was no way the instruments would come out with the wheel on >:(
Maybe there are variations in how the column is fixed? or the design of the wheel ? (My previous car was a 1994 CD.)

My current 2003 Elite has a tilting column and I don't even need to take the cowl off if I don't mind bending the plastic a bit. ::)
