Post by: Shane mvsex on 23 January 2011, 14:20:47
Could someone help me out, I have done a search for the post on manual conversion but not found it, could someone point me in the right direction please. Also what is involved in doing the conversion?

Should be easy enough to find.....

Go to Omega Help Section (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?catselect=omegahelpsection)

Follow link to Maintenance Guides (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?board=omegaguides)

then link to Maintenance Guide Index (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1259003779)

and scroll down to (or Ctrl-F to search for) Autobox to Manual Conversion (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1218634381)  :y

You'll then need to do a internet search for "How to grow an Extra Leg" ...

as the correct formula is :

No of legs = no of pedals  - System Operative

If

No of pedals > no of legs - System failure.

Lol

Got the auto fly wheel off today.
Then fitted the spigot bush and bearing.
Also fitted the manual fly wheel and clutch assembly.
And removed both down pipe/cats ready to fit the manual gearbox...
Getting there now tho

I will try and keep up dating I don't come on here much these days  :y

I just have a quick question regarding the Ignition timing Retard... I know that to some of you this will be common knowledge........

Ignition Timing Retard
Unplug the engine ECU and remove the connector from its hood (1 screw)
Locate the Bk/R wire on pin 42, cut off as far from pin 42 as possible (can do this further up the loom if preferred) then solder to one of the thin Brown wires and tape joint

Can someone let me know why this has to be done? Is it because the ignition setup is slightly different from the auto to manual setup?

Thanks in advance al answers greatly appreciated.

Technically, the correct way is to reprogram the engine ECU, the ABS ECU and the MID.

There is an ignition retard to reduce power for gear changes.

So I take it you don't damage the gearbox internal then.

the mod is all to do with the ECU recognising if it is fitted to a manual car or an automatic. The wire itself is nothing to do with the timing retard.

It's all about making the car easy to build for Opel. The ECU has both sets of internals for both gearboxes and once installed on the production line, the presence of an earth on the line in question tells the ECU which type of transmission is fitted.

the ignition retard is applied during the gearchange on the auto only, to reduce the power a bit and therefore make it a smoother gearchange. Not required on a manual.

The car is all back together now went to start the car and nothing, have all the ignition lights come but nothing on the turn of the key. Now the starter inhibitor switch wires are they the wires from the gearbox side or the wires inside the car? If inside the car they are conected if the wires at the gearbox end then these need to be sorted, so would this be the cause of the non starting?
All the plugs are connected to the relevant sockets so no problems there just this non starting problem.

  All help is appreciated.

have you taken the auto wiring out of the engine bay ? that's the stuff in the third large connector adjacent to the battery.

that's probably the best place to bridge the starter wires.

we sorted that from underneath now.
and she drives lovley and very quick he he he

couple of things to do still. i have no reverse lights even tho we switched the wires over still nothing.
tc lights on and we need to cut pin 42 and join it to a brown wire hopefull that will cut out the tc light and maybe the reverse lights will work....

i dont really have any pictures but i will post up some up that i do have in the gallery and here

thanks for all ur help  :y
