Hi guys
Want to do my front discs this w/end weather permitting ,however I see on the VX PC based manual I have they reccomend renewing the 18mm bolts fastening the caliper,
The Boys guide doesnt mention changing them is it ok to reuse cleaned and refitted with screw loc, :-/
-
I personally always use new ones, but that's choice :y
-
Think most peopleand garages would just reuse existing bolts.
When I did mine I renewed them ,only because the book suggested as they are torqued and then angled torqued.
Make sure you use thread lock on the bolts though which ever way you decide and torque up correctly.

Hi
I would reuse, just make sure the bolts threads are clean and also the caliper holes are ok then as said thread lock them tight ;)
-
I reuse.
-
yeah just bash them back in if they are still in good condition - just check them with common sense (as i have had a caliper shear off on an Audi)
-
Always re used, never thread locked as they are always stiff from factory thread lock and corossion. Ime they are a right bugger to undo, and stiff to do up.
.... These are caliper carrier to hub stub axle, right?

Same here too - no problems ever encountered either! ;)

I also re-used the original bolts as mine looked to be in pretty good condition.
However, if the threads or bolt head looked a bit suspect then I would replace them.
In order to make removing the old thread-lock a little easier I soaked my bolts in boiling hot water for five minutes before giving them a rub with a wire brush. Loctite was used upon re-fitting.

job now done,no probs, perhaps one of the more straight forward jobs I,ve done of late except for the tightening sequence done up to the VX spec but I'm a little confused as to what the 30deg +15 means .Hope I dont have to crack the bolts again and redo. :-/ :-/

I may be wrong, but I understood it as;
1; Torque bolts up to spec
2; Tighten a further 30 degrees
3; Tighten a further 15 degrees
