Title: Gearbox stand
Post by: Shackeng on 07 March 2011, 12:47:24
Having no experience of these, can anyone advise if this will take an AR gearbox?

I don't think this will be much good for the AR box - as, it connects on to the bellhousing - and this is what you need to remove.

Re your PM - shall reply tonight  :y

Thats actualy an engine stand.

Are you looking to work on the gearbox once its removed or are you looking at something to aid removal and refit?

As JV6 pointed out, we have to take the bell housing off, which is, apparently, the bit this stand would hold, if it is, as described, a 'Liftmaster Wide Engine Gearbox Stand'. Or is that incorrect?:y

I am struggling to find a decent image of one in use but this is what Snapon sell to convert their engine stand to grip a gearbox

If you have a sturdy workbench just stand the gearbox upright on the prop connection end and secure it to your workbench. Sturdy luggage straps or wire.  :y

If this for just changing over belhousing to the AR35 then all ive ever done is propped the g/box up on a wheel & tyre with the bellhousing facing upwards, then slacken off the bolts a few threads then tap with a nylon or rubber hammer until the b/housing separates, keep the g/box in that position ready to receive the AR25 b/housing,,,,as some on OOF will  know ive done this plenty of times!. ;D ;D
