Checking my rear tyres yesterday I realised both were down to the wear line. I'd be quite happy with medium spec replacements and was thinking about Falken-452s or similar after reading recent posts. These seem to come in at about £100 fitted which is a bit more than I had ideally wanted to pay. Has anybody got any other recommendations of anything slightly cheaper/better?

wait till ChrisGixer gets here, he will tell you what he thinks about them :-X ;D
Heard bad things for the bigger version, i've had no issues on my 16", I have Falkins 912 on front and 457?? (or what ever the number) on the rear, they were fine, but now i'm using the car a few times a month, they appear to have aged badly. Done about 20k on them, still got fair amount of tread left, but even for a 2.2 the back end has been a bit lively :o
Think i'd spend a few more pennies on tyres if i had a 3.2.....

Try Camskill or mytyres
Nankang NS2's are a good budget tyres as are Goodride SA05's
I have NS2's on the 2.2 at the moment and tho they are far from perfect they are an ok budget tyre. they are about £50 each for 17's
Stay away from Linglong, Fullrun and Enduro

I can happily recommend UniRoyal Rainsport 2's at £90 a corner fitted. The cheapest tyres that I'd be happy to try are KU31's and Hankook v12's.

The rainsport 2's are good, over the Falkens any day! :y

When I saw your tyres, they looked to be on their last legs to be honest.
You're quite tame on tyres, so the wear is disappointing.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I fitted some Dunlop SportMAXX last month at £90+VAT a corner. I'm impressed, but then for me, outright grip in UK weather is more important than cost or durability.

Kumho KU31's would get my vote for a well priced tyre. :y
-
Accelera Alpha's aren't too bad as a budget tyre... Been pretty reliable for me, although this second set is not as impressive :-/
-
3.2 tyres?
False economy.
Wait 'til you can afford 4. ;D
-
on a rainy climate, el cheapo tires definitely invites trouble..
and for falkens , stay away..(so you can rest chris :))

Erse...
;D
But a good one.... :y
I favour Goodyear. Softer, wear out quicker, but more fun in both wet and dry. Liked the GSD3's but they are no longer available so now using assymetrics. Not quite so rewarding as the GSD3's but a fine balance between cost and tyre life - but perhaps my cost/wear limit exceeds that of others...
Ultimately, tyres opinions are like backsides.
Everyone has one, so take your choice as spawned by personal budget and demands... :y

WHAAAAT, who where when, I've missed a Falken tyre post by the sound of it. WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP, AVOID AVOID AVOID, THIS IS NOT A DRILL.....etc.
To be fair I had major and well documented agro with the 912. Had the 452 on previous pre face lift and spent most of the life of that car trying get it go straight. Not as bad as the 912 on 16" inch rims but the family resemblance is clear.
Do yourself a favour, buy something else, ku31 is similaly priced. Certainly wouldn't go any cheaper. Even though the previously mentioned linglongs are a disgrace in the wet, I would rather have them than any Falken as they're a mare all the time. Linglongs are a mare when it's wet.
Dunlop sport max mentioned above sounds a very good deal.
Also conti sc3, and Bridgestone potenza. Bit top end though.

My local tyre place sells a lot of Lassa which they say are made in the same Bridgestone factory as the branded stuff. I succumbed and put one on the front last week (235/45/WR17) for 99.77GBP with valve and balance (73.70 ex VAT). The tread pattern looks good so will see how it goes.
I've used them on the Focus and just put one on the daughter's Fiesta too so we'll see.
If they're no good I'll blame Cem. It seems they are from his country! ;D

I'm with Chris on that score - FK452's tramline so bad it's like someone's yanking the steering wheel out of your hands! :o They're not too bad on the rear but wear isn't that great.

::) ;D
if its impetus model its ok.. honestly all lassa tires made here are for our road conditions which means at least I can guarantee they wont bang quickly ;D so compound a bit harder .. as you can guess noise levels higher and comfort lesser.. but grip good on the avg..
-
I can also recommend other 2 tires..
one is bridgestone turanza er300 (not cheap) and
good year hydragrip which seems not existent any more -here- ( I have used , have no comfort but sticks to road like a glue unless there is snow)

I have had both Nankang NS2 budget tyres and Continentals premium tyres and to be honest the Nankangs were better for me.
I tow a caravan with mine and the contis only did around 4000 miles on the backs where as the Nankangs did around 14000.
The tread is a lot harder making them last, but on the down side they didn`t grip as good as the contis.
I even managed to get the back wheels spinning with the caravan hooked on going up a hill with the Nankangs on!!!

Very glad of your full description of your needs from a tyre.
It's always important to give a description of what's meant by a "good tyre". A sport driver will have very different needs than those given above for example. My Dad thinks sc3's are a very bad tyre, purely based on budget. A good tyre for him is the cheapest concrete/granit compound piece of crap on the shelf. (sigh) ;D
-
yeah. The best tyre for my car is the cheapest hardest i can get!
When it comes to my bike though only the best will do..

Me too, theres no need to buy anything else :y unless you've got too much money and need to get rid of some ;)

Indeed... I tend to go middle of the road. I want reasonable wear rates as I do about 25k/year and don't want to be shelling out for new tyres every 3-4 months but want something that grips when I want to play ::)
Which tends to be more and more often since fitting the LPG :-X :-[ ::) :D

I just bought two very nice looking nearly new tyres from another OOFER to replace my fronts. No idea what make they are, dont really care tbh. They stop the alloys wearing away on the tarmac. ;D ;D

I like a bit of excitement in my life Cem. :y ;) ;D

Thanks for everybody's comments. I'll have a ring around this weekend and see what's available

ive ust had 4 firestone put on £74 a corner there good but i would go for uniroyal rainsport i alaways have these.

I have some neuton 5000's fitted to my 3.2 and they don't tramline and the car drives striaght. when they were first fitted it was like driving on marballs until they bedded in, i am currently on 18000m on this set and still good tread, i do mostly mortorway miles. The tyre in the dry is excellent no compliants, in the wet you do have to watch for worn roundabout road surfaces, you do get some slight oversteer followed by some slight oversteer but nothing scary and only if very, very wet. The tyre can be purchased from a SAAB dealer and they were £55 a corner, good tread pattern and a large rim protecter, just put Neuton 5000 in a search engine you find it easy. :)

I recommend michelin pilot primacy(not hp) tyres myself, great grip in the dry and fantastic in the wet, although they are not cheep and you might have to ask your tyre dealer to order them in, as they have been superceeded by the hp. the hp is noisey compared to the pilot primacy. OF ALL THE TYRES TO AVOID IT WILL BE THE FALKEN AS CHRIS SAYS.
