ded part ?
Thanks to the Forum members advice I've booked the vehicle in for a replacement cam gasket operation again (second time within 7/8 months)
As most people have suggested this may have been due to non Vauxhall parts being used first time around.
However I have a question regarding the level of authenticity (??) of these Vauxhall parts as quite a few of the motor factors I've contacted can sell me a standard set of gaskets for less than £20. Most can also offer an alternative manufacturers set (Victor Reinz for example) as OEM approved for around £40-£45. Then Vauxhall direct or at least Bristol Street will charge me £77 for the complete set.
So do I take the "OEM but not Vauxhall" route or pay through the nose for the "genuine" Vauxhall parts ? Bearing in mind I do not want to have to go through this procedure again in 8 months time >:(
Thanks as always
Andy (CDX 2.5 V6 Auto)

Personally i would be buying from a dealership and paying a little more but at least you'll only be paying it once ;)
-
I'd get Darth to do it with genuine Vauxhall parts.... SORTED :y :y

Andy, when the gaskets were changed last time where the breathers cleaned at the same time, blocked breathers will cause premature failure of the gaskets regardless of manufacturer. Was the black sealant used in the correct areas of the gaskets?
I would also go the gen vx route myself but it's your money, not mine.
There is a good write up n the maintanance section of the forum to go by. :y
Also is the garage that you use experianced enough to do this job, just because they are a garage does not mean they are capable of doing it. My advice would be to pm one of the guys on here and get them to do it. they will also check the breathers as well .

Genuine Vx from the dealers with a thorough breather clean ;)
Mine were last done 70k ago and have just started weeping :y

The garage I'm using was recommended by "dbr" who has known him for 12 years apparently. However I will take a print out of the Cam gasket repair topic with me just in case. I mentioned the breathers last time around and I assume they cleaned them out as they wanted to know what the spare pipe was, however that's no guarantee they cleaned them though :-/

Unfortunately cleggy Stoke is a bit of a hike from Newcastle otherwise I might have considered that option :)

The pink one will come to you if you bribe him with bacon rolls plenty of tea. :D

I shall bear that in mind gary when I next shop at Costco for those extra large packs of bacon :y

Genuine only.
Autovaux and similar try to tell you their's are genuine (by virtual that the company may supply a plastic clip for Corsa Radios), but they talk 'dangle berries'.
So, dealer only, accept the raping, and it should be good for 5yrs or more.
You MUST use a torque wrench (8Nm), and you MUST check the breathers.

OK everyone thanks for setting me straight. I'm buying genuine VX parts from Autovaux for £60.17 as opposed to Bristol Streets £77.70 ::)

I'm not sure the Autovaux ones are genuine to be honest. OEM for another VX part maybe but not genuine.

I take your point VXL but they're offering both Victor Reinz "who are an O.E. supplier to Vauxhall" at £45.29 and "genuine GM parts packaged at £60.17 including VAT and delivery"
So I'm assuming they mean GENUINE :)

Pay the extra £17 and get them from you local dealer, they WILL be without any doubt genuine.

There's been a lot said on this topic and personally, I would go to my Vx dealership and get them from there. They be a little more expensive but you KNOW they will be genuine!!
