Title: Thanks again to Welung666
Post by: SMD on 20 March 2011, 19:12:00
Went up to sunny Birmingham yesterday to see Lee to get a few issues sorted out, (rattle from under the car and a rumble at 40mph) and an oil and filter change.

He diagnosed the rattle straight away, a knackered mid section of the exhaust. This was a PITA to do as the whole exhaust was corroded (there was two sections of the exhaust that were patched up to prolong the life of the exhaust  :D). After a long hard battle with the mid section in question which refused to budge, we decided to replace the whole thing.

After the exhaust was fitted we went for drive to find the rumble, Lee noticed the autobox was behaving strange, and would not decide what gear to be in. He checked the ATF which was low and he topped it up with his very expensive GM ATF free of charge! This cured the rumbling I used to have at 40mph.

He also discovered a knackered tyre that has a 1cm slash and bulge on the inside wall (shame as its a very good tyre) and also sorted out an interior rattle which was driving me nuts.

After spending best part of a day working on my car, I have to say was worried about how much he was going to charge me as we hadn't agreed on fee. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved at what he charged. On top of that the exhaust and the service items were bought at trade price on his account.

Good result!

He was over here today.  Teaching me how to do a cambelt kit change and camshaft cover seals, as I learn better watching someone do the work first rather than trying to figure it out from written instructions.

Before the cambelt change Wellung found one bank of cylinders slightly out of timing and the crank pully had previously been put on 180degs out.

I'm now better informed on how to do the job myself in future.

Was also very keen on the job being done right, as he also explained about cleaning the breathers out and the throttle butterflys and other jobs to.

My car now starts better, runs and drives smoother and should also be a little more mpg friendly (if there's such a thing with a 3.2  ::)).

Very much appreciate the help and guidance from him.  :y

He has a bit of access to the internet issues at the moment which he's trying to sort out.  He will be back at some point though  :y
