Took my Elite for an MOT today. It passed but with an advisory that the rear tyres were close to the legal limit.
I fitted them just before last years MOT so they have only lasted 14,000 miles :(
235/45R17 'Elite' (no I've never heard of them either) but they felt good and haven't given me any nasty surprises. At £108 the pair fitted including balance, valve, VAT & landfill tax I am tempted to go and get another pair.
Last year a thread was started discussing the best tyre for the Omega but I cannot remember what the verdict was :-/
-
I put mitchelin pilot sports on and have done 17,000 miles and not even half way yet. £250 a corner on 225/35/19, but looks like I'm gonna get 40k out of them. So in mileage comparison still seam good value vs budget cost and wear.

There won't be a definitive answer... I probably expect different things from my tyres than you do ;) ;)
-
The only real consensus seemed to be that Falkens don't work. ::)
I'm interested in other peoples experiences. There seemed to be some agreement that Continentals worked well :-/
If I have to pay 5 times as much for 2.5 times the mileage I may as well go for the same again....
-
Ask a hundred people and you'll probably get a hundred answers.
I am using Kumho KU31's on my DTi Elite at the moment, very happy with them and the price is good.

My elite has Michelin PS2 all round, stunning durability if you don't overdrive them, but sod all grip.
My MV6 has Dunlops, much higher grip levels in dry and wet, I suspect I'll get around 15k from them. £100 a corner, fitted.

A quality sadly lacking in the cheap no-names the previous owner put on mine!

What size are your tyres?

That is not their strongest point ;D
Probably slightly noisier than sp9000

Both cars are 235 45 17 Z or W

Errr yes, there doesn't seem to be much of a compromise when you look around. The grip is good but the road noise isn't!
Still liking the Kumho's on this DTi, might do a wheel swap onto the 3.2 and see how I feel about them then!

The Michelin on the elite are quiet. Left a number 11 on the road and in my pants earlier when nearly fully utilising the engine uphill earlier today, bloody thing just fishtailed all over the place up a hill, I wasn't expecting that

What I am finding a little frustrating is that people are not making it clear what size rims and tyres they have. My last Omega had 16" tyres & rims. Noisier than the 15" on my mk2 Carlton which were themselves noisier than the 14" on my mk1 Carlton.
Even with worn tyres it was obvious as soon as I started driving my current car that the road noise was worse but the grip levels were a lot higher. What I haven't got a feel for is whether I have been lucky or whether the lower/wider profile would improve the grip even with poor tyres :-/
-
A wider lower profile tyre will generally give increased grip (to a point) and harsher ride, increasing noise as well

So I probably don't want the Michelins then.
Are the Dunlops still available?

I have been a bit surprised at how much noisier :( and how much more grip :)
-
Conti Sc3 are quieter than sport max ime. Just. But then I didn't think TB's car was noisy with the previous Dunlop's on. 235 45 17 rim sizes involved though.
Must say Dunlops do seem to give a very planted feel to the omega. Sc3 fractionally less so, but still highly rated. IMO anyway.
I'll not mention those "other" tyres. I need a decent nights sleep. :-X. ;)
Suspect the op might be happier with ku31 though, for the money. No experience of cheaper tyres so can't advise. :-/
Although, acelera alphas not been mentioned yet...?
-
the last 2 tires I used was definitely very good..and I can recommend them.. (although finding new date tires become very hard I and I fight for this)
bridgestone potenza adrenaline.. and micheline pilot exalto.. both being expensive.. but give very good grip (both wet and dry) as stated in tire tests..
however investing on expensive tires depends on your driving style, if you are not revving nuts and a normal daily driver toyo or kumho will do the job..
ps: comments based on the assumption you wont drive on snow..
-
Again I can happily recommend Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, stable planted feel, particularly so in the wet.
£90 a corner fitted for me.
At a similar price I'd be interested in Hankook V12's. Kumho KU31's if wanted to spend less.
Conti's if wanted to spend more.

Neuton Tyres for me .
I have then on all four corners. Find them better than the previous goodyears I had at a fraction the price.
