Title: grille fasteners
Post by: bigegg on 21 March 2011, 21:22:27
the grille on my omega (pre f/l) is (should be) held on with three screws which go into a block of white plastic in a slot in the top cross-memberl.

I need two of the little white plastic blocks (and the screws, but they're easy).
what are they called? so I can go to the motor factors and ask for them

I remember needing the self same thing about 2 years ago.

It looks like a square rawl plug with a self tapping screw thread. My local stealer had a real job finding the part and I actually think it came direct from German.

If you can leave it till the morning I will have dig around and see if I can locate the receipt which will then have the part number.

I assume yours is for the Irmscher grille for M/Facelift as mine was..think the standard grille is different.

Very enterprising of you.

I found the receipt and it had part code.99999999 so not alot of help, sorry .I remember the part guy saying it didn,t exist which is typical and even looking through the epc neither of us to locate it.So assume he must have got it direct from factory.

Sure a block of thick plastic that fits the hole with a thread in it would be perfect anyway...good luck with it.

thanks for looking.
only took me ten minutes to make a block.

HDPE (the stuff the chopping board is made from) is really easy to work with.
It was exactly the right thickness to fit through the hole in the cross piece.
Just had to drill a pilot hole through the centre, and cut a slot so it would spread when the screw goes through.
Bit of blue tack to hold it in place until the screw bites (otherwise it falls into the hole  :'( )
Job's a guddun as they say

Might be worth a patent then .Found the receipt and for VX to supply mine was £1=68 + vat..(but that was only at 15% then !!).

Good effort that man.

This is a bit of a weird coincidence but putting the grill back on my Miggy this afternoon having fitted a pair of shiney new HID headlamps I've just noticed that one of these little raw plugs has broken in two. Could probably try to araldite it (or try and get the chopping board out the kitchen without the wife noticing  ;D)
How much did it cost for a pack of 10 ?
