Title: ticking?
Post by: rickmv6 on 27 March 2011, 15:18:43
hi this is probably a silly question  but if the little copper looking pipe that comes off drivers side exhaust maniford was loose at the base would this cause the engine to sound like a hydraulic tick.  sorry for silly question but am stumped in finding this ticking noise.

Yes mate. It does make a noise when loose etc.. if when you have tightened it up it could be your exhaust manifold gasket :y

Mine is also loose, but I cant see how you can tighten it without removing the coolant transfer pipe. :-/

Eh? the steel pipe from the exhaust manifold to the egr??
Should be able to tighten it at the bottom (manifold end)

Just had another look Daz. I probably could get a spanner in there to tighten it if the LPG vapouriser and pipework wasnt in the way, so I will probably have to remove that lot to get at it.
The cars is due a big service in the very near future anyway - cambelt, oil, filters, breathers and camcovers look like they are weeping a bit from around the bolts, and I think the box is leaking a bit of ATF as well. so a few things to keep me out of mischief when I get a free weekend. ::)
