Title: No spark
Post by: venom on 30 March 2011, 13:13:00
I got in my car with the Mrs on Friday as she had to take me to hospital for a check up after my operation as I cant drive, as soon as she started the car I asked her how long has it been missing badly where she told me just a few days  >:( >:( so I checked for oil in the plug tubes & found 1, 3 & 5 full to the top with oil  :( which wouldn't be a problem normally but I cant stand on my right foot, but I changed the rockercover gaskets & plugs on Monday but when I started it yesterday for the first time it was still missing & I have found there is no spark at number 1 the other 5 are fine.
Could the plug lead have got damaged after being in the oil for so long or can the coil pack fail on just 1 cylinder or could it be something else I've not though of :question

Cheers lads

No 1 spark is from the same coil as No 4 so I'd suspect No 1 HT lead or plug.

Yep, Could be that the insulation is breaking down just on the No. 1 end of the coil, though, so it would be worth swapping the HT connectors at the coil pack between no. 1 and 4 to see if the fault moves to the other cylinder.

Cheers ruled out the plug as I swapped it with another one and it worked fine so I'll try swapping 1 & 4 leads over & can I get to the coil if I remove the scuttle panel or do I need to remove the plenum to get access  :y

You might just about get to it with just the plenum removed. I removed a couple of leads when I did my cam covers so they were out of the way ... but wished I'd not  ::) ::)
