Title: another oil leak?
Post by: charlieboy on 01 April 2011, 19:51:58
Daz  sorted out my oil leak, (cam covers however the wife still smells oil and I suppose I can too, there is no sign of oil on the drive service and I had a look as best I could underneath and there is a U shaped bar running acrossed the back of the engine which looks a bit shiny and wet, could this be an oil leak/ and if so where would you think it is coming from...... also where is the clyinder which holds the auto gear box liquid placed, I could check this to see if needs topping up... please dont say I have to get under........

As for the Auto transmission oil level check...

There's no fill / level check tube as mad as it seems the designers didn't think of incorporating as part of making it easier for owners.  As it's supposed to only need checking at service times.

Unfortunately you will have to get under the car.

See this link which should help you out  :y

couldnt it be just the oil residue left from original leak and burning off the engine which would account for the smell ??

Your more than welcome to bring it back and if it is something I have done then it I will put it right for free, but if its something else I will have too charge mate.
I must add though cam cover gaskets would usually leak straight away plus smoke quiet alot.
The offer is there though  :)

Daz The work you done is perfect, there is no trace of oil there, as I said if there is one it seems to be at the back of the engine this U bar seems to have some oil on it but it could have been there ages, also there is some on the tray at the front but again it could have been there a long while and I wouldnt think it would get hot enough to smell,

I have re read you post a few times now, I wonder if the oil cooler pipe bolts are loose? I have seen a number of 2.6's for some reason that are not tight which will cause oil to spill into the valley.  :-?
