Is ther a supplier of a decent foam replacewment for that which fits to the scuttle/firewall seal ?
I have used silicone to seal mine as the foam wasremoved as it had all but dissintergrated several yaers ago,but it is a real pain evrytime you need to remove scuttle panel for simple jobs like pollen filter or breather cleaning.
Silicone does the job fine but a replacement of the foam would be so much easier...any supliers or advise greatfully received.

Short end of scuttle requires removing to gain access to the chamber where pollen fillters lives.
The original foam section was fitted to the underside of the long section of scuttle which would require removal for most basic maintenance jobs/hbv/breather cleaning etc...this is the peice I have used silicone to seal across firewall.To be totally sure of seal I tend to run a thin bead of sealant across the joining face of both sections of scuttle.
As said ,its a pain keep cutting through the sealant to remove and wondered had anybody found a source of a foam which will do the job VX originally intended it to do without casing the usual leak onto the dispack.
Cant imagine every Omega has its scuttle sealed up with silicone now so hoped others may have found a less permenant option to this problem.

I had a problem with water filling No4 well - causing a misfire on my Desmond.
The foam pad (referred to as a rain deflector) was sodden and had to be dried out.
I did this by removing the scuttle and squeezing as much water as possible from the deflector out through the failed welding on some parts of the edge seam and around the seams at the wiper spindle holes.
However, the main ingress for the water was not the seams but the grommet which allows the pipe for the windscreen washer to pass through in the main part of the scuttle.
When I sealed this grommet up, replaced the newly dried deflector and ensured that the windscreen trim was securely attached to the bottom of the screen I had no further problem with water inside the deflector.
I tried to buy a new scuttle (with deflector) but the dealer told me that the part was no longer available.

The short section of the scuttle can stay put when changing the pollen filter, it has a 'hinge' in so it can bend enough to change the filter.

Never really noticed the "hinged section" in the short scuttle...I always just tend to remove it completly as allows a better look at the drain aswell.
I think the entire water integrity of the scuttle is pretty poor really for a decent car.No water gets anywhere near dispack when sealed up with silicone,but would really prefer a less permenat means of sealing it against the elements,so is there another source for the original foam provided by VX ?

Glad you have found the hinged section. I agree the design in the scuttle area is very poor. I think I have a leak into the inside of the car but will post seperately.
