my 2.2dti estate is refusing to start first thing in the morning so i did a check on the glow plugs and there is no power getting to them,am i right in saying its the alloy relay that is at fault,part number GM 55354141

It depends on the outside temperature, the glow plugs only come on if its cold outside.

Hi, I bought a cheap set of 4 off ebay. If they only last a year in my taxi its a guddun cos they are so easy to replace on the 2.2.
Just count to ten after the light goes out. Perrrfect...no crap out of the back.
Hope you get it sorted. One less thing to worry about.

As said, the 2.2 DTi doesn't use the glow plugs unless the outside temperature is quite low.
Check the leak off/fuel return pipes.

Hi again,ok i have checked the leak off pipes and they seem fine,i have replaced the big alloy relay to the glow plugs,it was a second hand one but was told it was perfect,i did replace the outside air temp in the winter with a patern onebut the car has been starting no bother untill 2 weeks ago,it is trying to go but just wont fire up,if i give it the slightest whif of easy start it go straight away,any ideas anyone please

I had abit play about with my 2.2 diesel the other day i put a 1.5k and a 100k resister in the plug for the outside temp i got it to read minus 33 and plus 55 degrees when the display showed minus 33 it didnt put the glow plug light on nor the glow plugs.I then took the plug off the coolant temp sensor which put the coolant temp to minus 50 which put the glow light/glow plugs for a long time.

I'd be looking at the fuel system rather than the electrics for the pre heaters...
If the leak off pipes are sound then may be the upper injector seals need replacing.
Only use easy start to confirm it is a fuel problem, don't use it to start your car every morning as you will eventually damage your engine.
Before you try and start it tomorrow morning check that the fuel filter housing is full to the brim with diesel (when putting back on the lid don't over tighten it as you will pinch the seal), if it's not full then fill it up and crank the engine for around 10 seconds, if it doesn't start then re-fill the filter housing and try again.
