Title: Scuttle Panel Identity
Post by: amba on 05 April 2011, 15:56:20
Are the scuttle panels the same across the entire Omega range as looking at several pictures the pre 2000 models seem to have washer jets fitted into them and psot facelifts don,t.

Curious to know if later models seem to have less problems with the dreaded water leaking onto the dispack.

I think theres two,one with no washer jets(there in the bonnet) and one with washer jet.The with with washer jets in the scuttle are the later ones

Prefacelift cars have the washers fitted to the bonnet. Facelift cars have the washers in the scuttle, however, late PREfacelift cars (my 99 included) have a scuttle with the holes in them ready for washers but have a blank fitted. NB If you put facelift washers into the scuttle of a PRE face lift car when you close the bonnet, it will push the passenger side washer down such that any water from it will not reach the screen!  ;) ................. ask me how I know!  :y :y :y

Because it cleaned the back window !!!!

Reason I enquired was ,wondering if the F/L scuttle tends to seal better as has less holes(apart from those for the screen jets which I won,t require)avoiding the constaint bath the rear plug/dispack gets .

I've never had/noticed a problem with water over the DIS. :-/ :-/ :-/

So they are the same?? Just the washer jet holes are blanked out on the scuttle before the facelift models??

Cars just before facelift have blanked over holes, earlier cars don't have any hole at all.

Looking at several pictures of engine shots on the forum the vent holes and joining strip on the Facelift scuttle appears different.

Given the fact that the Mini Facelift I have has had a constant issue with letting water past the joins which then drips down onto the back plug on n/s and the dispack, thought the Facelift design might improve this.

It seems VX in there infinite wisdom just stick a peice of foam.."water deflector"to the edge of the longer peice of scuttle which just acts like a wick and hold water to be deposited onto the engine.

My solution was to seal edge with silicone, but as this is semi permenant and requires cutting off everytime any access to back of engine is needed I was hoping for a less problematic option .
