hi all. need to pick brains again.. want to get auto oil changed as car 2000 reg 2.5v6 and prob never been changed, gear box seems ok but wanted to change, too big a job 4 me i think , but would get garage i use to do it. went to sewards vauxhall bournemouth to get gaskets etc, they advised not touching it as i need tech 2 to get the temp right while checking and to get oil level right.. do they know what they are talking about or should i listen to them ...

Absolute garbage being spoken there .. :)
You can change approximately half the ATF by dropping both sumps .. it is a messy job but easily doable .. especially if you can get the car on a lift :) Filter and gaskets from JPAT .. info in the "parts for sale - stickies"
To check the level after you've refilled it ..

Did mine a few weeks back at the Meet .. :)

I agree 100% with Entwood!
I'm a novice when it comes to these things and I managed to complete mine at the same meet a few weeks back, by simply following the guide he mentions.
Only thing I would say is your life will be made much last difficult if you have access to a pit or car hoist! :y

cheers .. i guessed they were talkin s..t ...well you know

vx dealer is not totally wrong, to check the level of the gearbox
the fluid needs to be aprx 70 degrees.

Holy thread resurrection ;D,

I know the Jags require the temp to be at a certain level, but I've never really bought into it. As long as the right capacity goes in :y

Bit of a sarcastic reply.
It's a valid point. ....if a little... ....late. :D

Does make some sense as both the volume and viscosity of any given fluid will vary with temperature ... :y

You can read the gearbox fluid temp with a code reader so not absolute garbage, it's just that we all know a better way of doing it, which as long as the unit is hot and each gear has been selected a couple of times to prime them with ATF then all should be well.

You'd be surprised what can cause auto gearbox issues , its not just the gearbox , its everything linked to it via ecu ::)
