If I were to buy a second hand engine ecu would it be plug and play and would it matter if it came from an auto?
My car doesn't have the full vx alarm system or a factory fitted radio, so no coding issues :-/
Hypothetical shopping list:
1x engine ecu,
3x key chips, (ideally 3 as I've 3 keys).
TIA,
Al. :y

The Engine ECU is paired with the immobiliser fob and also the transceiver by the lock barrel so these need to be changed with it.
There may be other config. options that need to be set by Tech 2. I can't remember.
Why would you want to do it, though? I don't think we've ever seen a V6 engine ECU fail.

I didn't think to be possible until last weekend either!
I have posted somewhere 3 days ago, that neither the spark plugs, leads and coilpack replacement solved my high rev idle issue.
Than I simply connected an other ECU coming from an old 2.5 v6. To be honest I didn't expect it to work at all, since my car is a younger 3.0, but could not find anything else to try.
And it worked!!!!
The old one was running, was able to communicate via OBD...everything except the normal idling.
