Title: Rear fogs not working.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 05 April 2011, 18:56:32
I've checked the bulbs  and the 10A fuse under the steering wheel. All is well.
The handbook makes reference to the the rear fogs being deactivated if a trailer/caravan is used. Could this be relevant?

Any ideas please?..... :y

whether trailer/caravan is relevant is only applicable if you have a GM socket on the back, it's designed to open a switch in the socket which powers the rear fogs. More likely is a break in the wiring that goes to the boot lights.  :y

::) Wot he said bearing in mind the following:

Front fogs work with the side lights/dipped beam/main beam on.

Rear fogs only work with either front fogs on, or independently with dipped/main beam on.

Still no joy. As said before......bulbs and fuses are fine. I keep thinking that it is linked to the tow bar....( which I have now removed as I never use it)

Find the trailer connection socket at the back of the boot, behind the trim (by the rear bumper) The rear fogs are supplied via the blue/black wire that is looped over in the plug. Is that live? This would go to & from the trailer connection of Vauxhall's specific 8 core cable & GM trailer socket.

Thanks Andy...Rob and DBR. I shall sort out my trusty Gunson Sparktune and see if I can find any live wires linked to the rear fogs.... :y :y :y

I had a similar issue and it wasn't until I double checked the connectors in the boot lid that I realised they had come loose.  They looked connected but they werent.  They must have worked themselves loose going over potholes and the like

In my case it was the side pins in this connector behind the boot slam panel(?) not touching the two centre pins.

If the wires near the boot hinge are not broken, check the plug in the picture...IMO.

That connector really is a horrible thing. Chop the 2 fog light wires, solder them together and heat shrink. :y

.. and if I ever find myself towing a caravan in the fog I'm going to shoot myself anyway, so it makes no odds. ;)

Would I be right to assume that the two black and blue wires are for the rear fogs?

As you can see one goes to the connector....one has been cut.

I've put the spark tune across the corresponding pins, with the ignition, lights and fog lights switched on.....but I don't get a reading.

I can't find the other half of the connector...if there is one.

SORTED !!!. Thanks guys. I found the other end of the cut black/blue wire and reconnected it. It had another (different coloured piece of wire attached to it.

P.S.Does anyone want a tow bar for a facelift saloon?

I have the bill for it......fitted 4/1/2008...at a cost of £199.48.

I quote. Supply and fit Witter towbar and single electrics. Plus Alko ball.

Looks in good condition. Remember the spacers that fit into the crossmember for the two forward mounting bolts when you do pass it on.

I'm sure a post in "parts for sale / wanted" would soon find it a new custodian. ;)
