I am trying to change my rear shocks,,,, the nut on the top is just turning with the shock :(
what am I doing wrong??????????????
have undone the bottom bolt but I havent managed to get the shock off..........not goging very well!!!!! :(

Stick a spanner on the squared end of the thread

These can be very fiddly if the nut is corroded on the shaft. I have had to split the nut to do this on an estate. Lots of chiseling didi the job, Dremel might be the way if that is available.
The flat/square end of the shaft is only 7mm (IIRC) wide so not too much force will be available to counter-hold it :-/
Good luck, my advice is to split the nut somehow, with cold chisel or a Dremel.

cheers I worked it out in the end.
got 1 off & put the new 1 on but I have done the top nut up quite tight but the the shock is moving >:(

there is a big metal washer & a tube that i should of took off the old shock,, goes under the top mount >:( >:( >:( >:(
Wl & WM is written on each shock also one shock has a vertical mark stamped into the metal the other has a horizontal mark,,,,,,,,, are they handed.
The 2 that were on ther both have a vertical mark stamped on them,,, confused :D

Well what a difference, car feels much tighter :) well worth doing.
I am thinking of doing the front springs & struts, should ride like a new then as I have already done the wishbones/droplinks/steering idler & rear springs :D
