Title: Slow to reach temp
Post by: Tonka. on 23 April 2011, 21:49:03
Recently the temp gauge has become slow to indicate engine operating temp. Takes about 5-6 miles whereas it used to take a mile or so.

Would I be right in thinking the stat could be stuck open?
Are there any other checks I can make to clarify this?

If the stat, any recommendations for quality  :y :y

Sounds like it could very well be the 'stat. Run the engine from cold while keeping an eye on the temp of the top rad hose, if it slowly warms up as the engine does, then the stat is likely to be stuck open. If the stat is working as it should, then the hose should stay cold then get hot all at once as it opens.  :y

Pass on where to buy one from though  :-/ :-/

Got to try it today.

On tick over, the RH top hose slowly gets warm and the LH hose follows it.

On the school run this morning (10miles), the needle didn't move until after 6 miles. Normally it is up to temp after a mile or so.

I guess I need a new stat then  :y :y :y

Yup, stat. Usual symptoms are cool running when cruising, heats up to normal temp when in traffic.

For V6, I'd be inclined to get from a dealer - that certainly what I did the 3 times I've changed stats on 3 of the 4 V6's I've owned.

Best get a transfer pipe and 'O' ring as well from what I have just read.

This will be my first look at the 'B@stard' bolt  ;D ;D
