i have a 2.5td cdx which i bought from a forum member and while the car is great with a huge service portfolio i have a problem which i cant get to the bottom of
about a week ago i started to get a rattling, knocking, jangling noise and as the viscus fan was broken have replaced that but its still there it looks like the belt may be a bit slack and im not sure how much play there should be in the belt as the tensioner moves a bit whilst on tick over but i dont know how to tighten this up if it is that
i will add that as soon as the rpm reaches 1000 it goes away and is only there on tick over sounds like an old transit with a broken air box on tick over
thanks on this sorry its a bit long
also any know a good mechanic around south east london
thanks
kevin

The auxiliary belt is self tensioning, it could be that the tensioner has seen better days.

hi yes have just checked it and that seems to be the case just 2 more things would i need to replace the whole lot and how easy a job is it
thanks

Its an easy job and you just need the tensioner, the bit with the black top unless the bearing in the pulley has play then that will need changing as well ;)

thanks eleite pete now had confirmed by the aa as well
whilst im talking to you the cambelt change etc that you advertise would you be able to price my 2.5td for the same please ie you supply parts or me

Your diesel is a chain not a belt so it doesn't need replacing every 40,000 or 4 years ;)
