Thought il do the pedal trick, while doing it noticed my sunroof tilted open and closed x2? :-/? (is this normal) Anyway back to the codes:
P0170- Fuel trim Malfunction Bank 1
P0173- Fuel trim Malfunction Bank 2
Now i aint got the foggiest where/what fuel trim bank is let alone 2 of them :-?. if anyone know please explain or do i need a tech 2, to get a more in depth info, if so who is the closest to Romford with a tech 2! TIA :y :y
-
Fuel trim is out on each bank of cylinders - not sure what it means myself to be honest. The old precat lamda chestnut ?
No doubt someone with a brain will be along to advise soon. :)
Tech2 - not sure who is closer - kevin wood in Alton Hamshire or The Boy in Brackley. :-/..............although, going by the routes you take to get places it might be Hotel 21 in Scotland. ::) :D ;D ;D ;D

Have a read of this :y

My money is on the MAF :y If it is not cured with putting a new maf in I will be surprised.
-
Yes, I had those, cured with a MAF.
they are not as reliable on the 2.6 & 3.2 as the rest of the range.
Be very wary of the cheap chinese ones - often no more than a resistor!
I would (and did) source Bosch off ebay - search on both omega 3.2 maf, and the bosch part number, as they are used on other vehicles (maybe even the old transit van)

looks to be the one I fitted a year ago.
0281002184 is the bosch number, a search on that reveals no cheaper bosch ones, but plenty of pattern parts (which I wouldnt bother with)
-
In theory could also be an air leak, but Maf is usually the culprit.

>:( >:( >:( ;D ;D so Hotel21 should be expecting me now that you've said it out loud.
i'l check for an air leak in the bay (tighten everything that moves) and be on the hunt for a MAF!

Thanks for the link JB, but would you recommend sourcing a used one! :y

given the reliability of the 3.2 /2.6 ones....it would have to be very cheap imho
-
To find out whether a replacement maf would do the job perhaps we can swap if it is the same for a 2.5 opportunity for me to clean it as well.
-
2.5 are different, and more reliable.
-
DBW amd non DBW MAFs are different.
The trim codes mean the ecu has had to richen or lean beyond a certain threshold for proper combustion.
So, assuming both lamdas aren't knacketred, that leaves either it is miscalculating the amount of fuel its injecting, or misreading the amount of air going in...
...for both banks, that means at least 2 duff injectors for the former (unlikely), or incorrect measurement of air for latter (air leaks, maf, etc)
Note, LPG conversions can cause these errors if the calibration is way off.
-
Hose to the air box was little loose but still in place, screwed that tight. also now after a bosch maf but 2nd hand (budget tight). anybody know how long it takes for the codes to go off/reset? Thanx Peeps :y :y

a mate has a vectra c 3.2 gsi (2004), which has been involved in a rear end collision, so he gave me the MAF on his car.
my MAF No: 0281 002 184 (as said by JB)
gsi 3.2 MAF No: 0280 218 087
just because it fits i wouldnt want to put it on. Bt firstly i want the forums opinion on whether i can/cant use this MAF? TIA
