Hi guys, i had my oil cooler replaced (at some great expense) see older posts. Was just wondering how long it takes for all the oil to get out of the coolant system. I needed the cooler replaced as it had failed and sucked up lots of oil into the coolant system and ended up with custard in the expansion tank.
The garage have said the engine may need flushing thru a couple of times to clear it all.
I have had it done once but still have oil in the coolant.
Have checked oil levels in sump and they are fine as had oil change and new filter when cooler was done, so its not sucking up oil still.
Have spoken to a friend who is a mechanic and he said it would take a while.
Was just wanodering what you guys and gals think.
Its a 51 plated 2.6 v6 auto on 70k.

add.... Have had the heads checked just to be safe.

i used a garage in alderholt near fordingbridge, i got the oil cooler myself and they charged me about £220 area. did you pay more than that.. also they put some coolent flush and i drove for 20/30 miles and they took off the coolent hose that goes from top of engine to coolent top up tank and ran the engine, this pushes the water out and they reved engine which forced it out quicker, i did this once more myself and the water is fairly clear now. i did drain some water out of bottom of radiator but that seemed clear... just need to fluch it out few times. i even drove the car with oil in the coolent for a while and it has still flushed out. try that garage if yours is to expensive

It all depends how long the car was driven with a faulty oil cooler, if its caught soon enough then there's less flushing. I think its the worse part of the job and can take many many flushes to get the coolant clear. Buy a few bottles of Forte coolant flush to help shift it ;)

Have read a message posted on the board called "what can cause oil in the water" and its the same as my problem and it also says it may take a whole weekend of flusshing out to cure the problem.....Thanks guys.

ps. can it do any damage, I will get the forte flush and flush it out over the next few weeks.

with this problem would you also get get a oily/coolant smell through the heater, just asking because my oilcooler gasket was replaced coolant looks ok but smell coming through vents :( will add no coolant/oil leaks

I would use a bottle of Forte bio degreaser instead of coolant flush
this will work much better and is specialy developed for the job :y
