Title: Changing the power steering pump
Post by: blackviper90210 on 07 May 2011, 20:19:02
Hi all,

Is there anyone local who could swop a power steering pump please?
I have 2 options, aquire a replacement and put it on my mig, or take it off one mig and swop them over.

What is quickest/easiest/cheapest please?

TIA  :y

well easiest way would be to get one and fit it rather than take 2 off to replace one, why do you think you need to replace the power steering pump?

On idle the power steering is non existant, add a few revs, all is fine. Absolute nightmare trying to park etc  :(

I could possibly do it for you Mate, I am currently self employed and seem to be spending most of my time working as a mobile mechanic.
I'm sure I may even have a spare v6 pump knocking around here...

not stepping on your toes brikhead  :(  but has the op tried swapping the servotronic relay before you go changing the pump itself?  i had this on the mv6 changed the pump on it but no difference  :( changed the relay and hey presto power steering back  :) i even swapped the pump back to the original and still had power steering so after a lot of skinned knuckles and swearing all i had to do was change the relay surely easier than swapping pump to check at least  :y

I know very little ref mechanics, but always willing to learn!
Where will I find this relay, as I could try and swop them with my other mig to rule it out!

Not at all. Any advice given that can save a Forum user from unnecessary expense should always be the main reason for replying to a thread...
