I'm trying to find the source of this leak, started suddenly this morning. It's not the HBV, so far I've got the plenum and manifold removed, oil cooler plate is dry.
Hoses to the HBV removed and checked, coolant bridge is off and looks ok.
Coolant transfer pipe at rear of block not showing leakage in inspection mirror, it seems that the leak is below the dispack level.
Any ideas what is in that area that could leak under pressure?
2.5, 262,000 miles so far.
All ideas gratefully received.

On the head which is difficult to see because of the dispack is the Core Plugs... or you have the head gaskets..
Saying the Core Plugs though they usually leak without starting the car up, the water will just pour out..

That's what I was afraid of, I've just managed to remove the dispack to get a better view- of its mounting bracket!
I'm wondering if this is worth pursuing, do I take the head off, or give up. Decisions, decisions.
I suppose a head gasket is cheaper than another car, but by how much?

Next question, I have a part number of 9118338 for a head gasket for a 2.5, not the same as a 2.6.
Anyone have any reccomendations for suppliers?

2.5 are different from 2.6 head gaskets.
Get in touch with Trechi he will supply you with Head Gaskets and Bolts :y

I had a weeping core plug for a long time on my old car, lost a couple of litres over a hundred miles.
more on short trips
less on long trips
leading me to suspect leaks from cold / cool, but expansion slows leak down.

Well the head is finally off, that's not easy is it?
The leak does appear to be at the gasket, next job is to check for distortion and then decide whether to continue.
One more interesting thing, no6 plug has not been changed for a very long time, it would not come out with reasonable torque. Looking at it from the combustion chamber side, it was six or so threads short of complete insertion, ran fine. It's out now and the threads retapped, perhaps I should have been more determined but before the failure there was too much to lose.

Easy to fit a new one with the head off or the engine out of the car.
Getting the old one out (and a new one in) is 'character building' ::) in the car due to the lack of access.

Character building looks to be quite an understatement, I have one on the bench at the moment, the core plugs are behind the dis pack mounting bracket. Trying to remove that bracket in the car would turn my character to suicidal.
There are two countersunk torx screws on the upper rear face and one under the horizontal section.
